The Story Behind the Hollywood Legend
Before he became forever associated with one of cinema’s most beloved Christmas classics, It’s a Wonderful Life, Jimmy Stewart faced one of the most transformative periods of his life. Jimmy tells the untold true story of the legendary actor, exploring how his Hollywood success led him to a very different kind of battle during World War II.
The film follows Stewart from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Philadelphia Story to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps and becoming a combat pilot. During the war, Stewart flew 20 missions over Europe and eventually rose to the rank of colonel. His experiences left a lasting mark on him, and returning home proved far more difficult than he had anticipated.
Just when Stewart was struggling to find his footing again, the opportunity to play George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life came along. The film explores how this iconic role would become an important part of his life and legacy.
